Gold Nugget Squash
« on: October 03, 2015, 10:38:54 »
I’ve just been looking at Gold Nugget, but it's description varies at different sites, some say sweet others not sweet.  Has anyone here grown it,  I’m wondering if it is a tasty one and if it stores longer than the month stated at some seed sites?

My attempt at growing them was not a great success.  But there were probably reasons why and I don't think I can blame it on the variety.  Taste was good.

The description here on Johnny's seeds sounds mouthwatering, especially as it is a long storing squash.  Being a maxima, there should be no reason at all why it would not store.

Thanks, good to hear they are tasty, are they on the sweet side?

That's what I thought, wonder why some sites say just a month. Lots of contradictory write ups on this variety.

Hi Jay. long time no chat..

Gold Nugget is the one squash that we suggest folks in our mini lotties grow as it is very space tolerant. It produces very well.

Taste wise it is fine, not as sweet as most butternuts but sweeter than most acorns..does that help.

My advice is try it, it doesn't take up a lot of space, if you need seeds I think I have some..let me check.

Great to see you here  :toothy10:
Sounds good and yes it does help  :happy7:

I wanted a small, tasty squash around the single or double meal size and these just looked so pretty. Thanks for the offer but I think I have a few seeds stashed I can grow next year.

Funny you should post now, I was thinking about you and John yesterday. I brought most of the squash into the house to finish ripening, before the weather turned today. It's not been the best summer for squash and a few failures.  But my gorgeous Sibley I had from you and has always done so well still gave me a fruit and what a beauty it is  :happy7:

Hi JayB..no problems.

John is Ok but he has been in the hospital for almost 4 months now, he is waiting for a specific nursing home to transfer to.

I am having a very very difficult time adjusting to this and it isn't getting any better despite the time..any enough of that.

I am going to be passing on most of my seeds, I have a very small growing area plus my lovely big greenhouse but I have tons of seeds and they need to be finding new home s soon or they will be no good.

oH, wrong thread..but while I am on a roll here. I grew runner beans last year but was sick earlier this year and didn't get any in..hey guess what...they grew again from the original roots,,this is a first for me.I knew it can happen as they are supposed to be perennial but as I said first time for me..

We will get to chat..I have gone from having no time for mysellf to tons of time on my hands now.
