Electric blanket in the greenhouse
« on: February 28, 2015, 17:46:06 »
Does anyone use an electric blanket under the seed trays on the staging in their greenhouse. If so how effective are they and any idea how much do they cost to run.

Do be careful.   Not sure they are designed for use in this situation?

Yes good point! I'm dying to get my plants off to a good start, but not literally speaking.

what about a reptile heat mat?

I've used a reptile mat in the house (in an enclosed box) to start seeds off, but my understanding is that the elements in them break easily (if there is a point-load on them), so a horticultural warming mat would probably be better.

I don't bother with any of that any more, I just stick them in our boiler room, until they germinate, but that room is toasty-warm so not an option for everyone :)

Airing cupboard perhaps? Top of fridge?
