early xmas
« on: November 24, 2014, 09:14:59 »
I've told all the rugrats that every xmas tree that gets decorated before the 15th dec an elf drowns a baby reindeer. The parents were not amused.

well children, if you put your tree up early, it means Mummy and Daddy don't love you

no, no only joking

it means they're not really your parents

well since Bonfire Night now goes from the last week in September till the third week in January, we're getting off lightly with Christmas Creep (thus far)

I've lost count of the number if times I've said, "IT'S NOVEMBER" these last few weeks.

Don't people get bored of all the lights and stuff before it's actually Christmas?

I certainly do.  Ours is going up the week of Xmas but this year I will buy it earlier and stick it in water outside.   last year we left it till later and the poor thing ended up a bit droopy so I want a freshly cut one this year that hasn't been sat around drying out.

i've given up buying rooted ones as the big ones are just hacked out of the ground and only one has ever survived.

Our tree and decorations come down on 12th night too though we leave outside lights up till the end of January - just plain white lights in strings and nets which brighten up the front of house for Possum's birthday in January and through the dullest month of the year.

Have to admit that I often don't bother decorating at all!

I am well pleased last years xmas tree is still alive still in the pot.  I suppose I ought to repot it this year.  We once had one for five years until it got far too big.

We also still have the Blue Peter one my son made when he was about 9.   He is 35 now.  Certainly it be a sometime get before we get the xmas decorations out.  Two daughters come for Xmas and expect the lights and baubles and the whole works Xmas dinner particularly the pigs in blankets.

Personally I hate Xmas: bah humbug! roll on Spring.

in our new home in Dorset so its gonna be a goodun no matter what  !!!!

Mum obviously will miss dad being with us at Christmas as will we all,so us "Three Amigoes" will spend it together best we can....
.....yes im a Diabolic so will be good when I can with goodies and drink......god I miss dad as a drinking partner at crimbo as mum doesn't drink and jude has the odd "small Brandy and Lemonade" ...so theres me with me pint and chaser and nobody to celebrate
crimbo with....oh well maybe its for the best  !!!!

cant wait to go out to the Christmas Tree farm near us and choose a big fat tree for the lounge...... :blob7:

I do like Christmas because of spending time with loved ones, giving presents, and delicious food (great excuse for me to make fancy desserts which I don't do any other time of year). And as a choir person, carols of course!

I'm just not keen on the blatant commercialism and, I dunno, fuss I guess. It's still Christmas without all the bling and endless Christmas songs and TV adverts that I'm supposed to cry over, and sad dead dumped trees come January.

I also HATE this attitude of "be nice to each other, it's Christmas". Like it's okay to be a complete git the rest of the year!

Definitely heading into grumpy old woman territory as I get older. ;)

Me too, well I'm already there...and older I get worst it gets.
I don't mind any celebrations per se...I just hate when people make the fuss without truly having meaning/feeling to back it up. What is a point all the hassle, spending money etc etc just 'because of Christmas', giving things to each other 'just because' and what's worst of it, stuff or money/vouchers just because everybody feels that they need to do that necessary exchange of 'stuff' and ideally even to same value... :BangHead:..and everybody has got already more 'stuff' than they really need... :BangHead:
I love making presents for chosen few people...and when I do them, I make them because I care for them and it is my way of showing it....but I absolutely won't go and spend day with some of the family and pretend being 'merry' when I cannot stand them....everybody acting 'oh haven't we got lovely time'. Nope....don't need decorations and all that...just spending precious time doing something enjoyable when and where and with who I/we feel like it.
And before I get off of my rant scale, in a positive note, I love my own Christmas traditions and really looking forward to it...candles and log fire, looong 'turkey walk' with a dog to 'wet the appetite' ...getting bum comfy on settee and watching something enjoyable in telly ( usually ballet or opera, just because they don't show it on telly any other time)...few cold meat sarnies...maybe a tipple or two...and maybe play puter game that I only take out of draw once year...little things that make that day different from any other.. :drunken_smilie: Having spent Christmas Eve in more 'traditional' way..Christmas day is for leisure time, I send OH for his Mum and rest of the family and I can have 'one woman and her dog' time, just me and my girl  :icon_cheers:

I love fairy lights and put decorations up just to cheer the place up. LED lights brilliant as not use much electric! Agree with the sentiments expressed by the others. Should be renamed "Comercialmas" :BangHead:
Much rather celebrate the return of the sun. :sunny:
