Yuk.  I do hate slugs.  The piggy clearance mob do love them.

I love the fact that it's so horrible that they eat excrement and small rodents. Errr... that's what slugs do when they aren't munching our veg, they clean up the crap that gets left lying around!

As for the cannibal bit... we have Leopard Slugs (first recorded in Britain in 1678... so most people probably still think they are bloody foreigners!) in our garden, they are most impressive  when hunting down other slugs, being anything but sluggish, and they also have the most incredible sex life. http://vimeo.com/16731697 You won't find me trying that!

Ordinary ones eat excrement.  They seem to like dog poo.  Certainly if you kill one there is soon another busy eating it.  Something has to do the clearing up.

Brilliant video thanks for sharing. After seeing that it makes me feel that there is so much wonder in nature we need to respect. My boot is reserved for the keel slugs now. Not sure what to do if  David Attenborough finds some virtue in them !

We've had those big orange jobs for ever... I chop them up with a spade and dig them in. One or two Leopolds but not enough to keep on top of everything else. I was my grandson who told me they eat other slugs. Now I look more carefully before I go for the chop....
