Marfona spuds... must be tasty!
« on: August 28, 2014, 11:10:05 »
...because I lifted mine last night, and they were absolutely munched to threads by the slugs! Oh, and a wood mouse, which had made a nest under the end of the row.

What's really odd is that only the three Marfona and a single stub of a trial variety next to  the path were affected - the rest were as close to untouched as I've ever seen. Anyone else ever encountered  such variation?

I also have a problem with slugs and potatoes. I always grow Kestral which don't get bothered by slugs. So last year after trying Maris piper for two years which were well and truly munched. I looked at other slug resistant varietys.

Romano and Cara both stood out. The Romano have been brilliant no damage at all. The Cara are still in the ground with the hulks dying back now so will have a peek next week.

Hope this helps.
