Birds eating figs
« on: August 01, 2014, 13:01:25 »
I know there have been many posts about protecting figs from birds, but try this if you have a smallish tree.
Method 1. Search the tree morning and late afternoon for any figs that have just started to ripen and slip a small opaque poly bag over it with a peg to secure it. I know it's a lot of trouble but worth it! We have a 10' x 10' tree and have picked over 10lbs of delicious figs this week.
The other way is to use 250ml water bottles, I snip out a  6mm  bit of the neck with wire cutters (this lets the stalk go through as the bottle neck is to tough to open)  and then cut down from this to the bottom of the bottle. This is then opened and popped over the fig.
