Anyone know what these are
« on: April 14, 2014, 10:22:46 »
Found maybe half a dozen little pockets of these in beds just below the surface.  Hard, look like seeds but assuming they're some kind of egg or similar.

Thanks

To me they look like coated seeds of some sort of grain cereal (e.g. wheat).

Don't normally get coated seeds for the amateur market, so does seem a bit odd.

If there's nothing wrong with me, maybe there's something wrong with the universe!

That's exactly what I thought.  We've had seeds from a company that have been that colour before but these were in little clusters (I spread the one in the picture around) in beds that all had different things in last year, and found in the beds that had recently been weeded and raked.

I agree with Crispy, wheat seeds. But I think coated in mouse/rat poison, brought in and buried by a mouse, I'm not sure if rats bury food also?
Is anyone using poison around you?

I don't know what's going on there these days, November 10th last year I was on my way home when waiting to turn right a car smashed into the back of me doing about 60.

It's only this last week I've been well enough to go back and start trying to do something again so very much out of the loop at the moment.

I'll have an ask around. Thanks.

I know we do have a problem with mice (and rabbits, birds, moles, teenagers).

Yeah, I think I may finally be there.  Various back, shoulder, hip, concussion injuries, the most serious of which was a prolapsed disc which I had steroid injections for just over a month ago but that left me with a dural leak which I am just about over now.

So I've taken two weeks off work to do a little each day at the allotment to try to get it going for this year.

Now my back feels OK but everything else hurts, but it is a good kind of hurt, the hurt of muscles finally doing something after a long time.

You accrue a lot of annual leave to take when you're off sick for a long time.  :toothy10:

I would say definitely rat bait.  It shouldn't be in the soil though and definitely ought to be covered so birds cannot get to it.  I would remove it from the growing area and put it under a shed.

Sorry to hear about your accident.

OMG, how terrible. It must be so good to be back mobile and doing things you enjoy once again. Don't over do it

Agree with Pauline, that bait needs to be moved as soon as you can. I found some similar to that in a bed a few years back. I took the poison and the surrounding earth and put it under a shed. I've no idea if the bate poison can transfer into the soil though?

Another vote for rat poison here.  My guess is that it's been buried by squirrels.
