Clivia

Hi there,
I'm not a frequent visitor to this particular board but have a question about a clivia.
Years ago we "stole" some seed from the Chelsea Physic Garden. This is now a large pot-bound plant.
When is th besst time to divide it?
And how what conditions do they like best? It has flowered.

OOOOO naughty girl    I got a clivia for mothers day last year and the roots are enormous.  Mine isnt big enough to need splitting as yet but I will be interested to know when and how as well.

My clivia looks stunning at the moment with 3 large flower heads and at least 6 new baby plants growing around the base.  I believe they are better pot bound and as for splitting, if needs must, then after flowering would be the best time.  My poor clivias were given to me by my father in law in a bucket, where they had been slowely drying out for a few weeks!  I cleaned them up and left them in a bucket of water overnight and then planted them up into regular multi purpose stuff, and within 6 weeks they were in flower, and haven't really stopped since!

Found the Following.

Plants reach Flowering size..typically after Four Years
from SEED!!
Should be potted on Every Year or so until Maturity.

Grow them in John Innes No 2 with Extra Perlite
for Drainage.

Found no Instructions or Information over Root Splitting

I have a very generously sized conservatory that wraps itself around the entire back of the house.  Half is given over to the kids, and half is my mini Eden.  I do also own windowsills if you want to rent one.

we are in the middle of putting up what will turn out to be a cloche.....yes-we bought it as a conservatory but,no matter how many times i worked the footprint out and it DID seem fine at the time..now the base is down it seems.well... a little-erm-compact.
