What's eating my bulbs?
« on: February 21, 2011, 12:30:26 »
Just one bed, not the pots, but some little blighter's eaten all the crocuses down to ground level and is munching through the tulips. Is it mice?

Last year we watched a squirrell pull up a hyacinth and carry it off and eat it.
When I get old I don't want people thinking
"What a sweet little old lady"........
                             I want em saying
"Oh Crap! Whats she up to now ?"

Yes, grey squirrels do love tulip bulbs, I have to put chicken wire over the pots in winter and early spring or they are lunch.

At Savill gardens the other week the gardener said that rooks/crows and Jackdaws were particularly keen on crocus and had taken about 2000 from one bed"  :o

OK, we have visits from crows and jackdaws so I guess that might be it. The pots are fine, just a more secluded bed has been routed. Might try putting some chicken wire over it.
