We have huge bed of great carrots!!! Not found any fly damage yet. Invested in some enviromesh and it has done the job. Wahoo!!  Grin Grin Grin Am chuffed to bits!

Sparkly, great news about your carrots.  I to invested in some mesh this year after trying just about everything else, results are looking very good.  It seems for me mesh is the only way to win the war against the demon fly.

Thanks guys. We have used fleece before and it did seem to help, but we still ended up with the dreaded fly!

i tried doing mine in a bath full of multipurpose compost (needed 9 bags) mixed with two bags of dried farm manure.

worked a treat.

Well done! Growing in dustbins has worked well for me, but you'd need a lot of dustbins to grow as many as you you can get in a bed.

thats why i use a glass fibre bath. Better surface area to compost volume ratio
