Any ideas what could be planted in the gap between the broad beans? it would have to withstand a period of shading.

i was thinking parsnip or beetroot, or would that be too much shade when they're just getting going?

There will be no gaps between my broad beans.  Tend to end up like a jungle.  Another vote here for the radishes but they will have to be very quick.

I plant my broad beans in a 10x10 grid, each seed 8in x 8in apart.

There's no room for anything else to grow in the same space.
