How sad.  Chin up though Cleo, we all make costly mistakes at times.  Hopefully you will be able to start your collection again.   Cheesy

Cleo you are anything but stupid, just human like the rest of us and capable of making mistakes. I am sorry you lost your beautiful plants though....time to visit thr garden centre perhaps.

So sorry about your Dalias, maybe a visit to a garden centre might help to cheer you up, or maybe not (more cash.)
If you had some favourites it is difficult to cheer up  just now , but we all make mistakes Cleo.x

Its so frustrating when that happens, but it has been an exceptionally hard winter.

Cuttings are only a pound each and its not to late to get an order in, I recomend station house nursery in Wirral or of course Halls of heddon, or if you cant wait til april wilkos have got several tubers, my favorate of theres is new baby an orange pom pom.

If you are buying new my faves are tarahati ruby (a bright red waterlilly) and cheyenne a lovely spikey orange both strong varieties and great for cutting!
Good luck with it and dont let one years loss stop you from growing them becuase youll miss the colour come september
Chin up and onwards and upwards

Stored in small cardboard boxes in the unheated but bubble insulated greenhouse, what went wrong??-lack of attention is my excuse. It`s been cold for a long time but my thoughts have been more about keeping my wife warm than attending to plants--and if I think back I could have dried them a bit more

My guess would be that they froze. I had cacti in a greenhouse in Cornwall, and even there I needed a bit of heat in cold weather, just to keep the frost out.

Actually some good news-the medics think they know why she cannot swallow-long story but they are are hopeful that in time she will get off of the PEG and be able to eat real food in time.

I've had a similar disaster with my fuschias. Left them out far too long. Ho-hum

How about bedding them in into vermiculate next winter. It is good insulator, I haven't lost because of the cold yet...plenty of other reasons though Roll Eyes
