What has happened to the Sevilles this year?
At least I managed to get the last of our Co-op's today.

See "Seville Oranges".

As to its history it was the name of a character I played in an online game called 'Everquest'
The character 'Mortality Rate' was a female Dark Elf Necromancer, the name seemed apt at the time and has been used alot by me over the years.

Sterilising jars in the microwave is very simple.

You just put about an inch of cold water in the bottom of each jar and spreading them out on the turntable, (they should not touch each other) just put the machine on it's highest setting and take each out as soon as you see the water boil.

Use oven gloves to remove them.  Empty out the water and drain them by upturning them on a perfectly clean t-towel.  Fill whilst still very warm with hot jam and then seal up as normal.

No matter how often I do it, the jars never all boil at the same time. So they need watching.

It depends on how many jars you have and the power of the microwave how long it takes. About two minutes per jar.
