Mine were going great guns - I have 4 fruit now full size and ripening and about a further 6 or so (from 6 plants) still developing and currently about the size of a grapefruit.

However....the dreaded powdery mildew struck and I had to remove most of the leaves last night in an attempt to control it - so they are now looking very sorry for themselves indeed.  I can only hope that the plants survive long enough to develop the fruit fully.  Lesson well learned for next year to use some preventative measures!

this pic was taken about 3 weeks or so ago - before the rot set in  Sad

I am growing Jack O Lanterns and have 4 plants which are doing really well.  I have about 16 pumpkins  (with more coming) ranging from golf ball size to football size at the moment.  Some are striped and some are plain green - why?? Also do I have to cut of the trailing ends to stop any further growth or do I leave them.  I have bedded them up on straw.  Am I doing the right thing or not.  I have never grown them before.  I also have 4 Butternut Squashes (Hunter) which I am trailing upwards on a frame, is that OK.  Any advice would be very much appreciated on the growing of pumpkins/ squash.

Hi Chippy Queen.  Not sure I have the answers, so we'll have to wait till someone more experienced comes along, but in the meantime theres a thread on here at the moment where similar q's are being asked -

I'm also growing Hunter (for the 1st time too) so it'll be interesting to hear what others have to say. at the moment mine are trailing happily away, and I'm not sure when they will stop Roll Eyes
