Mushroom compost
« on: January 03, 2007, 19:13:20 »
I have been searching locally for spent mushroom compost, but it seemed quite expensive £15 for ten bags.

Would I be better of buying 10 B&Q grow bags approx £1.50 a bag.

Same price, but probably more in the grow bags, but which would be better as a soil improver?

Never used it myself but if its as good as you say it is then I would of thought whoever grows the mushrooms uses the spent compost in their own garden lottie.

Don't know which is the best but i got a trailer load of say about 40 bags (it's a very big trailer) for £5.00 in November, we have 3 sheds round here Lancaster where you can get it from, they even loaded the trailer for me via a conveyor as they were emptying the sheds

They sell for£5 per bag here on the Wirral but when I got some last year I got at least 2 kilo of mushrooms growing out of each bag.

What nutrients do you get from them??

How do I find a Used Mushroom Compost supplier. I've checked out the Internet, but can't find anything.

I live in South Birmingham/ Solihull.

The chap who supplied mine called himself a topsoil purveyor. Perhaps you might have success looking in that direction.
