For the lucky ones with good roof height, it's a mixed blessing.

1. DO check that the topmost growth is WELL TIED. It's so easy to miss things a foot or two above your head, & it's not pleasing when 2 feet of fruit-full growth break off. And not only because they are not tied to the cane, but also because the weight of the toms splits the truss

2. Isn't it difficult to see the ripeness of the topmost toms when you're staring into the sky?

I have to smile, for this has happened to me in the last couple of weeks. I always assume that the last two feet of vines can support themselves, and of course, they never do. My fault entirely, for not learning ...
