I think that that would be much the same as the material that Agralan supply with the matting.

Well I've just come home for lunch, and found a Harrod Horticultural catalogue on the door mat, and flicking through I've come across the exact method I was describing, all made up for sale! Page 82. C Self-watering trays. Try this link;
