We got an allotment a weed pit on Sunday and searching for terrex autospade I came across this site. I spent all of yesterday weeding and now have aches upon my aches.

It will get worse - the aches - but you will swell with pride.  Little and often and plant up the clearedbits asap otherwise the weeds sneak back in.  Welcome aboard.

My reply to you disappeared  :(

Remember your lotty is not meant to make you miserable or ill!  Do it little and often so you don't hurt yourself.  You have your plot now and it's not going anywhere to kick back and enjoy it. That's an order by the way  ;D

Have a look on the Swop thread for some seeds for next year  :)

Hi Shell,

Wardy's advice is good advice! I've had my lotty for a couple of weeks now and the "little and often" approach is definitely the most sensible. Enjoy! ;D

Cheers,
Rob ;)

Welcome Shell!

Don't worry - when you are fed up with things on your allotment (we all have those moments when things just don't go right or we are aching from so much weed pulling!) just come and chat to all of us - we'll cheer you up! :)

I know every one says do little and often - but it's a nice knackered feeling isn't it??

It is a satisfying knackered feeling I have to admit.

Welcome

When I started my plot there was so much to do I found that I did not finish one thing properly but did a bit here and there and had dozens of things on the go.

My advice is to concentrate on getting one thing as you want it before moving on to the next thing, better one bit done properly than several half finished.

But be warned once bitten by the bug their is no going back  :D

Allotmentmayne (that's what I call you  ;D)  as in Stand By Your Mayne

Sorry!

I do lots of jobs on the lotty at once but I do it on purpose as I have a really bad back and if I do one job for longer than about 10 minutes my back kills me so I do something else.  I do get my jobs finished in the end but just having that break does ease the back.  So although it's bitting and bobbing it does serve a purpose  :)

Bawdy Wardy ( as thats what I call you as in Bed and Board or B and B ) your house looks great by the way.

Agree with what you said ( I have a Dicky ticker ) but find 30 mins work and 30 mins rest with a bottle of amarone you get there in the end. :P

 ;D

Sorry to hear you have dicky ticker but your lottying will hopefully do you good.  My bro has just recently had heart attack and he's just got himself a plot as part of his therapy.  He's loving it and feeling much better  :)

I can honestly say it didn't bother me at all. Although that could be because it's my married name ;D
