Campden Tablets
« on: September 09, 2005, 10:17:45 »
How necessary are they? I have run out and there isn't a home brew shop within miles of us, so it will have to be online ordering and I don't fancy paying the postage on 1 tub!! (got plenty of everything else of course!!!)  I see Jennym's post on it, but don't fancy (actually can't be bothered!) to sterilise my wine!

The are only sodium metabisulphite, used to sterilise the wine.

A lot of  supermarkets now stock stuff like that, you may get them from a pharmacy.

I read somewhere that you can use a drop of milton, it is the same stuff.

Hope this helps you,

Campden tablets are on sale in our local Wilko's stores as well as Morrisons supermarket around here.  Have you looked in your local stores?
Milton :-\ what about the strength though ,Surely this will be higher .When added with potassium sorbate problems at the end  of fermentation i would have thought it would very be hit or miss ???
for the sake of a £1 and p+p is it worth ruining your wine?
